Interview with Tish Butcher, Office Manager at Nexus CollectionsArticle published: June 2010
Tish has worked at Nexus Collections for 7 years and manages the stock sales department and the printing operation. Over the years, she has become a familiar face with many of our for whom she has been of valuable service. 1. How have Nexus products changed in recent years? The first and most notable difference is the move to environmentally friendly products. Nexus has been at the forefront of sourcing and using the most eco friendly fabrics and fittings in their bag styles in conjunction with GMIC (Green Meetings Industry Council), designing the bags using non-woven or cotton linings without the pvc backing frequently used by others. The challenge has been to use eco fabrics that can still be printed in-house. Other changes include the introduction of lanyards (by popular demand) and non-woven shopper style bags. 2. Have clients events changed in recent years?Again, the environment has played a big part in changing the event style. Our clients are conscious of their carbon footprint, not just with regards to sponsored products but to all areas – attempting to minimise waste and use resources efficiently. I think that clients are also aware of the tightening company budgets and therefore they are thinking very carefully about the location and length of their events. 3 Therefore, in the light of these changes have clients expectations changed?Client expectations have changed too, they expect to have a wider choice of fabrics and print options, often at fairly short lead times and with minimal price increases. To combat this we have been able to offer a variety of solutions including sea-freight to additional products such as lanyards to reduce their cost and carbon footprint. We have also introduced transfer printing, which helps enormously with multi-colour prints, including photo realistic prints and on open-weave fabrics where opacity is harder to achieve. However, clients have been as inventive as ever with their bespoke designs and matching products – which is something we would never want to change! |
